Victoria Beckham recently opened up about being resentful of David Beckham during a tumultuous period in their lives.
She recalled that during a phase in their lives in 2003 when David was playing in Spain, and she was staying back in England, rumours started to circulate in the media about a potential ‘affair’ between David and his assistant.
The rumours were first published by News Of The World and, according to Victoria, caused great strain in their relationship. At the time, the couple’s two children, Brooklyn and Romeo, were going to school in the UK. In a new Netflix documentary, even David admitted to feeling “sick every day” during that phase with those “ludicrous” rumours about.
Both David and Victoria recalled that that was the “hardest period” in their lives. David further goes on to say that he does not even know how they got through that period when it felt like it was the world against them.
David, in the documentary, says, “I don’t know how we got through it, in all honestly. Victoria is everything to me, to see her hurt was incredibly difficult, but we’re fighters and at that time we needed to fight for each other, we needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for. There were some days that I would wake up and think, ‘How am I going to go to work? How am I going to walk on to that training pitch? How am I going to look as if nothing’s wrong?’ I felt physically sick every day when I opened my eyes, ‘How am I going to do this?'”
Eventually, Victoria moved to Spain to stay closer to her husband and try to mend the strained relationship. They bought a reportedly £3million home in Spain and even had their third child, Cruz, in Spain. However, having to leave the UK was not something Victoria wanted to do, and this again caused resentment towards Beckham.
